| Thank you for volunteering to assist us with
Rockville Science Day 2010. We are delighted to have with us this
year. Below are outlined some of our general tasks, instructions, and
contact information for you. We are the front line of contact with the
visitors and exhibitors. What we do can assure that this annual activity is
enjoyable and educational for all who attend.
Event: Sunday, April 25, noon – 5p.m.
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street,
(Science East, Science West, Tech Center, Campus Center, Gymnasium)
VOLUNTEER WORK ON SATURDAY, April 24
4 p.m. to 6 p.m., we will need some
help for exhibitors who will be unloading equipment and beginning to set
up their areas ahead of time in the small Gym in Physical Education
Building. In addition, we must put up Science Day signs throughout the
campus. If you can or prefer to assist Saturday be sure to contact Phyllis
Marcuccio, 301-762-3588.
VOLUNTEER WORK ON SUNDAY, April 25
10 a.m. to Noon, we have
several assignments:
Helping the exhibitors unload equipment
and set up.
Placing additional directional and
instructional signs all over the campus.
Distributing Programs to other buildings
and sites being used for Science Day - Science West, the Small Gym, and
the Campus Center.
Noon to 4 p.m.
Distributing stickers to all attendees.
Volunteers are needed to stand at major entrances of all buildings being
used and offer people sticker labels featuring the seal of the Rockville
Consortium for Science. We pre-count the number of stickers on a roll,
volunteers are given groups stickers, and told to save the empty backings.
These empty sheets serve as a guide to a general count of the number of
people who attend. Volunteers are encouraged to offer a sticker to anyone
they spot on the campus without a sticker.
Substituting for exhibitors as needed.
Volunteers should offer to spell an exhibitor for a break as needed.
(Complementary food vouchers will be available for lunch from the Kiwanis
Club of Rockville for volunteers and exhibitors. Pick them up at the
information desk PE Building.) It is advisable to learn something about
the exhibit if you are going to sit in.
Helping Kiwanis with food sales and
distribution.
The AAUW will be presenting their annual
awards Sunday in Tech Center, room 136 at 1:00 p.m. and may need
directional assistance for their participants.
4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
At 5 p.m. the show closes and the
volunteers will need to assist the exhibitors pack up and get their
materials and equipment to their cars.
NOTES:
Rockville Science Day is sponsored by the
City of Rockville, and therefore, is an event that can be used for community
service credit for the Montgomery County Schools. Just bring your forms with
you and we will process them on site.
Volunteers must register at the
information desk in the small Gym upon arrival. Ask our volunteer
contact, Phyllis Marcuccio, for assignments. We will provide you with a
T-shirt and a badge.
The Rockville Consortium for Science, Inc. is
a non-profit, educational organization whose purpose is to promote interest
and literacy in science and technology in the Rockville community and
beyond. To this end, it is working to establish a science and technology
center in Rockville that will be a focus for the community and will also
